Dress of the Year

Yesterday I went to the Fashion Museum in Bath. Anusha is based in the city, and I’m lucky enough to live ten minutes away from the museum, which is housed in The Assembly Rooms. The historical collection has amazing clothes and accessories from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries (plus a couple of my grandmother’s 1920s beaded dresses, which my family donated to the museum's archive).

The museum also has interesting contemporary pieces, including the Dress of the Year collection - every year since 1963, fashion journalists have chosen an outfit that represents the year's newest ideas. All the winners - Ossie Clark, Jean Muir, Mary Quant, Armani, Missoni, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford to name a few - have donated their outfits to the museum.

Dress of 2000 was this famous little number, as worn by Amber Valetta on the catwalk, Jennifer Lopez at The Grammys and, er, Geri Halliwell later that year. Test your knowledge, by seeing if you can match up the dress with the correct year in the museum's online Dress of the Year quiz!
